Now we have the Scooter Libby case which many people are absolutely ecstatic over as he is positioned to go to prison for 2 to 3 years and the judge has determined that he will NOT allow him to be free pending appeal. It reminds me of the Martha Stewart case actually and I also remember how elated people were to see “That Bitch” get it, and now it is just political fodder for the “Get Bush” crowd, but basically the same. I can’t even tell you how sad this whole thing makes me on both of those accounts because it simply implies that you don’t even have to commit a crime any more to be placed in prison and that is a fundamental violation of the Bill of Rights.
Scooter Libby is being sentenced to prison for impeding a Grand Jury investigation by failing to recall information that they felt was vital to the case, just as Martha Stewart had but as this was more politically motivated he is getting at least 20 months longer for his crime. In the end though the original charges were dropped {because they could put him in jail now anyway realistically} but it goes far beyond that if you pay attention to it all. He was being accused of leaking the name of Valerie Plame to the news media while she was a CIA operative. This is a huge no no in the world of espionage except for one piece of evidence that nobody has ever been told unless they actually care to look it up themselves which is that she was and I mean always was NOT an NOC {non-official cover} Officer and was never covered by the statute that they were using to get Scooter Libby. It was also brought out in the case that Richard Armitage was the one who had done the so called leak {he of course was given immunity for this heinous crime … blah} and the facts really are that everyone knew because her own husband who everyone was supposedly trying to get even with was the one who published that she was a NOC to the internet when bragging about how cool they were many years ago. The special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald who has been indicting Libby has actually known this from day one.
Heaven forbid that our wonderful leader do the right thing and pardon Libby as he should because this is out of control, but it does beg to ask the question of “What the Hell is wrong with GW Bush?” since the fact of the matter is that all of this rests at his feet if you ask me but not because of what has happened but once again the lack of leadership that I usually only expect from camera whores on the left side of the isle not camera shy right wingers. I am not talking about the problem itself but I am talking about how his administration could have stopped this at any time. This was his US Attorney running a complete witch hunt that had so many witnesses simply destroying any evidence against Libby that they looked foolish. The person who actually wrote the law that is on the books about “outing” CIA agents took the stand and basically said “No Law Was Broken” after the director of the CIA supposedly sat down with the US Attorney and told him “There Was No Law Broken” and a man is going to jail for lying in an investigation that never should have happened. For those of you that think lying about sex is “normal” in front of a Grand Jury, please chew on that a while.
So let’s run with that ball for a minute since we have now demonstrated the incompetence of a man that I voted for twice {and still would over Gore or Kerry … they are worse … live with it} as we talk about the former United States National Security Advisor under Bill Clinton by the name of Sandy Berger. Here’s a man who during the 911 investigation signed himself into the National Archives {basically the place where all historical documents pertaining to government are kept} and then stole all pertinent evidence showing Bill Clinton’s idiocy as it pertained to terrorism by shoving it into his pants and socks, and then took it away to be destroyed. As in GONE, completely whipped from the historical archives of the United States of America FOREVER, and was issued a $50,000 fine and this was during probably the greatest investigation since Watergate of the very evidence that they needed that week. The very same administration that is allowing Scooter Libby to be fed to the sharks, that were in charge of the people who did it were also in charge of the people who handed out that sentence. That passes the smell test here of course! Of course he only couldn’t recall what he did with any of that paperwork that is forever lost, and under no circumstances was allowed to leave the room it was in. Yep, no double standards here.
I don’t even need to go into detail about how the US Government treats Mexican Drug dealers that are here illegally with 700 pounds of pot in their van if they get shot in the ass by a border agent do I? Well of course they give the guy instant residency in the United States and throw the border agents in prison for shooting the guy after he shot at them. The fact of the matter is listening to everyone crying for Alberto Gonzalez to be fired for firing US Attorneys makes me want to rip my eyeballs out because realistically they need to fire a hell of a lot more if you ask me. None of the ones that screwed Libby or the border patrol agents are on that list. This goes beyond incompetence and strait towards ignorance, and the fact that more people aren’t screaming about what our legal system has actually become and are spending their time crying about poor ILLEGALS running around afraid for their freedom in public rallies scares me because I am not important. You may think it’s hilarious when they rail road Martha Stewart or Scooter Libby, but when they come for you or me there won’t even be blogs written about us ;8o)
